Description
President William McKinley Jr., born January 29, 1843 in Niles, Ohio was the 25th president of the United States, (Republican Party) serving from March 4, 1897, until an assassination attempt on his life in Buffalo NY, September 5, 1901 where he gave a speech at the Pan-American Exposition. He was rushed to a Buffalo hospital where he later died approximately eight days later, September 14, 1901.
In 2009, I became a substitute teacher at McKinley High School here in Buffalo. At the time I was not aware that the school was named after President McKinley until the principal one day mentioned that it was his namesake. I was interested enough to research his life and was impressed with his accomplishments. I have walked many times through the halls of McKinley HS admiring the art on the walls and the architecture of the building. It is an institution that houses great programs of learning opportunities for our youth and I felt they should be proud to attend there. It troubled me that a portrait of President McKinley was not noticeable in the building. I decided to create a Portrait of the President and donated it to McKinley high school #305, and Buffalo, Board of Education. In addition, I pray that it raises a since of school pride for the students and staff.
The original portrait size is 14″ x 17″. Charcoal drawing, 100% acid free, cotton rag paper, limited edition. Signed and numbered by the Artist. Lithograph reproductions are also Available upon request.
